Download this program
to test and compare your real world reaction times and then plot your
braking performance versus your chosen government advert.
The National Motorists
Association Australia has developed a tool for examining some of the
increasingly unbelievable government "road safety" indoctrination
advertisements. It is being made available free for download so that
anyone can see just how exaggerated most of these advertisements really
are. (see: a more detailed discussion of this topic)
Feel free to pass
this on to your friends if you find it interesting.
What can it do?
- The program is
an excel spreadsheet that measures your reaction time in a simple
test (you will need to enable macros to do this)
- Your reaction
time is transferred to the spreadsheet which then calculates your
stopping performance. You can see this as a table, or on a graph.
- You can choose
from a variety of government road safety 'scenarios' and see how you
compare to the standard government driver. Most people find that they
can stop from 70 km/h or more, before the propaganda car can stop
from 60km/h!!!
- If you have a
road-test that lists the braking distance for your car, you can determine
the braking coefficient for you car - our bet is it will be considerably
better than the 0.35 to 0.8 usually quoted by the authorities.

FAQ
How accurate is the reaction time test?
In fact this test will give a slight over estimate due to computer
taking its own time to react. Also the test involves (1) observe, (2)
think and (3) move hand. Your raw reaction time would be less if there
was just one button.
When driving, your foot will move virtually automatically at the first
thought that you need to brake. It is such a well rehearsed manouver
that it happens without much conscious thought so we expect your foot
will move at least as fast as your mouse/finger.
