Laser proven inaccurate - BBC PDF Print E-mail
A BBC consumer program has documented gross inaccuracies in the LTI 20/20 laser speed gun widely used in Australia.

The Inside Out program conducted the tests at a racetrack in Britain and observed sereral incidents where the speed detection device overestimated the speed of the target vehicle by up to 30 mph.

Well known UK road safety advocate Paul Smith concluded: "These devices make mistakes and the BBC film proves it."

This is of great interest to Australian motorists as the LTI 20/20 is used in ACT, WA and Tas, while another model from the same company is used in Qld and NT.  Although the program only used one type of gun, the inaccuracies demonstrated appear to be intrinsic to the technology rather than any particular type or model.
