Elderly drivers

Elderly drivers have the same rights to drive as other drivers. We recognise that many elderly drivers are careful, competant and well suited to be licenced.

However the elevated involvement in crashes of elderly drivers suggests that care must be taken to ensure that incapable drivers in their ranks are not licenced.

Any approach needs to avoid being simply discriminatory against elderly drivers and needs to be scientifically based.
