Insurance company threatens to sue child crash victims. Motorist group condemns the move.Insurance company NRMA's pursuit of money from children struck by cars for the damage done to the cars was declared to be "totally outrageous" today by Michael Bates, the president of the National Motorists Association Australia. The comments responded to NRMA ordering two Gold Coast children who collided with cars while crossing the road to pay for the repairs required by the cars they collided with. Both Beau Garvey and Dean Kafoa required hospital attention after the 12 year olds were hit by cars in separate incidents. "It is true that almost all car-pedestrian crashes are caused by pedestrians," he stated, " but this is no excuse for charging injured kids money for the damage their bodies do to cars," said Bates. On Federal Office of Road Safety figures, pedestrians cause 74% if pedestrian-car crashes and partially cause another 8%. "The government should be the one focusing on the fact that pedestrians cause these crashes not some money hungry insurance company. The figures indicate that if they really want to reduce the number of pedestrian crashes they should work on changing pedestrian behaviour not just hand out speeding fines," he concluded.
